June 15, 2023 @ 8:00 am - 5:00 pm

Indiana Cavern’s Celebrating 10th Anniversary

Indiana Caverns is celebrating their 10th Anniversary on Thursday June 15th with family friendly activities for all ages. Indiana Caverns is located just south of Corydon Indiana and is part of the 7th longest cave system-the Binkley Cave System- in the US and the longest cave in Indiana.

Harrison County residents can tour the cave for half price – $12.50 for ages 12+ and $7 for ages 4-11 on the date of the cave’s opening in 2013.

A variety of activities will be taking place throughout the day.  Special displays of cave discoveries since 2013 will be on display along with a display of Ice Age animal bones found in the cave when it was first discovered in 2010.  According to the Indiana State Museum “these bones represent a significant repository of Ice Age bones in the Midwest” and include bison and peccary as well as birds, reptiles and smaller mammals.  Peggy Fisherkeller of the Indiana Museum will be sharing discoveries made on paleontological digs in 2014 and 2018 from noon to 3:15, with a free public talk at 2 pm.

Members of the original discovery team in 2010 will be on hand and share stories from the breakthrough expedition in Binkley Cave when the section that is toured was first discovered.

In addition, Gary Roberson will be signing copies of his most recent book, along with his three earlier books on the Binkley Cave System and Indiana Caverns development, from 12-1:30 pm.  Gary has been exploring the Binkley Cave System since 1967 and has been involved in the show cave industry since 1971 when he was part of a three man team that developed Squire Boone Caverns which opened in 1973, and was an owner/manager of Marengo Cave for 28 years before developing Indiana Caverns in 380 days starting May 31, 2012.

Food will be for sale for lunch from “Q-Pine” BBQ Food Truck, of Corydon Indiana.

Family fun activities will be available free in the “Cave Cabin” near the Visitor Center including wildflower displays, kids cave related coloring options, and Bat Origami.  A Scavenger Hike will be available throughout the day for families.   A personalized laser wood burning souvenir option will be available as well.

Indiana Caverns offers an 75-80 minute tour that includes an underground boat ride.  Activities on the surface include The Bat Chaser, an aerial zip coaster on a steel rail, The Plunge, a 50 ft drop, two Escape Rooms, gemstone mining, goats and more.  Indiana Caverns is open daily 362 days a year at 9 am.
