Three Unforgettable Caves

There’s even more to scenic southern Indiana than initially meets the eye—below rolling hills, beautiful forests, and rich farmland lies a network of caves containing Ice Age bones, underground streams, and fascinating biodiversity. Experience it for yourself on tours of Indiana Caverns, Marengo Cave, and Squire Boone Caverns. Each cave offers something unique; from a 25-minute underground boat ride through Indiana Caverns, to Marengo Cave’s Crystal Palace, to Squire Boone Caverns’ pioneer village with functioning gristmill built by Squire (brother of Daniel Boone) in 1809.

The caves remain around 54 degrees year-round, making them a perfect activity for the hottest or coolest days.

By Air or By Water: Ziplining & Canoeing

So many ways to experience Harrison County!

Soar through the treetops and over ravines on Squire Boone Caverns Zipline Adventures, Indiana’s longest zipline. Choose from tours lasting 1 ½ hours (suitable for ages 7+) and 3 hours (13+).

Peaceful nature surrounds you as you canoe the Blue River—the gentle current helps to pull you along so you can take in your surroundings. Cave Country Canoes will drop you off upstream with your rented canoe or kayak, and they’ll be there to greet you at the end of your journey, which will conclude at their headquarters (and where you parked your car).

Living History

There’s much more to see in Historic Downtown Corydon, including several buildings dating from 1816, when Corydon was Indiana’s first state capital. Tours of the First State Capitol Building, Governor Hendricks’ Headquarters, and Porter Law Office begin at the Corydon Capitol State Historic Sites office. The Harrison County Discovery Center is a great place to start your visit.

There, you’ll find interactive, immersive displays for all ages featuring the area’s wildlife, natural science, and history—including a 360-degree projection of a reenactment of the only Civil War battle fought on Indiana soil, the Battle of Corydon. While downtown, stop in at Zimmerman Art Glass to see four generations of glassblowing expertise in action, and treat yourself at Butt Drugs’ classic soda fountain, in operation since 1952.
