The Historical Society of Harrison County presents a Jazz concert by the Jamey Aebersold Jazz Quartet on Saturday, September 22 from 7:00 to 9:00 pm on the Hurley D. Conrad Memorial Bandstand on the Square in Historic Downtown Corydon. The event is free and open to the public. This project is made possible by the Jennifer Lawrence Arts Fund at the Fund for the Arts in partnership with the Fund for the Arts through an Imagine Greater Louisville 2020 Grant.
Jamey Aebersold is an internationally-known saxophonist and authority on jazz education and improvisation, and has developed a series of Jazz Play-A-Longs (book and cd sets, now numbering almost 130 volumes) as well as various other supplemental aids for the development of improvisational skills. The recordings employ some of the best jazz musicians in the world.
In 2014, Aebersold was awarded The National Endowment for the Arts Jazz Master Award, the nation’s highest honor in jazz. He is the recipient of the 2014 A.B. Spellman NEA Jazz Masters Award for Jazz Advocacy, which is bestowed upon an individual who has contributed significantly to the appreciation, knowledge, and advancement of the art form of jazz.
