Bluegrass on the Square
June 22, 2013 - June 22, 2013

The downtown square of Historic Corydon comes alive with the sounds of Bluegrass this summer!

Battle of Corydon Reenactment
July 12, 2013 - July 14, 2013

The blast of cannons and the piercing ring of reveille will punctuate southern Indiana’s countryside as soldiers reenact the famous Civil War Battle of Corydon, which originally took place July 9, 1863. Events, such as an on-field reenactment, demonstrations, an encampment and military ball are held at Hayswood Nature Reserve just a short distance from the historic battlefield. A special reenactment of Morgan’s Raid will gallop into downtown Corydon on Saturday at high noon, just as they did in 1863 with Confederate soldiers pillaging local shops, homes and buildings. In addition to the downtown raid and the Battle of Corydon Reenactment, other activities include a lecture on Civil War history by, none other than Abe Lincoln himself portrayed by Larry Elliot, a ladies tea, a lighthearted military ball, various historic demonstrations and a memorial service for the fallen soldiers.

Harrison County Trailblazers at Hampton Inn & Magdalena's
posted by Trailblazers T.

We checked into Hampton Inn on a recent Friday night in anticipation of our Breakfast with Santa the next morning.  After check in we spent some time touring the hotel before heading out for dinner.  We at a lovely dinner at Magdalena's Restaurant & Cafe on the Square.  We also spent some time in the cafe listening to live Christmas music performed by a local group of musicians.

The Square was so beautiful we took a brief walk through its winter wonderland and ran into a group of out of town guest, the McDaniels Kentucky Rough River Red Hat Society.  They posed for a couple of pictures for us too.  They seemed to be having a great time.

The next morning we had a very nice breakfast at Hampton Inn then were treated to the Polar Express story just before Santa arrived.  The kids really had a great time.  Linda, the general manager at Hampton, was so welcoming and really went out of her way to make sure all of the guests were having a good time.  At the end of the story, each child received a silver bell.  A few days later, their picture with Santa arrived in the mail.  Great memories.

We felt like out of town guest in some ways, but it was good to know we didn't have far to travel back home.  Best of all, we were again reminded how lucky we are to live in this beutiful area.  Watch our video below:
